Each year, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) throws their annual Gala to pay tribute to creative visionaries that have had an impact in the world of art and film. The museum reached out to us to provide a visual identity for the event. The BAMPFA team asked us to provide a design solution that could be serialized throughout the years and work well with the current museum branding. Our branding focused on bringing back some of the experimental and avant garde edge of the BAMPFA from years past.

Inspired by BAMPFA’s architecture, the interplay of curved and straight lines, representing the integration of old and new architectures, helped guide the shapes and forms we would use for the logo’s letterforms. The cantilevered structure of the cafe influenced the tilt and slightly curved edges of the logo. Paired with a cool, colorful gradient palette, the visual identity we created bridges past and future, a marriage of serif and sans serif type that is modern, yet timeless.
